Nigeria-eligible goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo delivered another standout performance as Wrexham defeated Swansea City 2–0 in the EFL Championship on Friday night.
The Arsenal F.C. academy graduate kept his 11th clean sheet of the season and was named Player of the Match after producing several key saves at STōK Cae Ras.
Okonkwo, who progressed through Arsenal’s Hale End Academy, has pledged his international future to the Nigeria national football team and is widely expected to make his senior debut in the coming months.
Nathan Broadhead opened the scoring midway through the first half before Callum Doyle sealed the victory with a late second goal.
Despite the goals, it was Okonkwo who stole the spotlight with a series of decisive interventions.
In the 21st minute, he produced a fine low save to deny Žan Vipotnik after earlier keeping out a tame effort from Gonçalo Franco.
The goalkeeper remained alert in the second half, blocking an attempt from Marko Stamenić before denying Ji-sung Eom from a late free-kick to preserve the clean sheet.
Only a handful of goalkeepers in the Championship have recorded more shutouts this season, including Carl Rushworth with 13 and Christian Walton with 12.
Okonkwo’s clean-sheet tally matches that of Thomas Kaminski, Sol Brynn and Lawrence Vigouroux.
