Bright Osayi-Samuel said Nigeria’s quarter-final victory over Algeria was the kind of occasion he relishes after the Super Eagles booked their place in the semi-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 with a commanding 2-0 win.
The defender was one of Nigeria’s standout performers as Algeria were restricted to no shots on target, with second-half goals from Victor Osimhen and Akor Adams sealing progression and setting up a last-four meeting with Morocco.
“Firstly, I pray to God to give me the energy to showcase my ability,” Osayi-Samuel said. “A lot of people sleep on me, which is okay, but it’s games like this where I have to show people how good I can be.”

Nigeria took full control after the break and were rewarded when Osimhen rose highest to head home Bruno Onyemaechi’s cross from the left, taking the striker to 35 international goals.
Osimhen later turned provider, breaking clear from an Alex Iwobi pass before squaring for Akor Adams who dribbled Zidane and finished from close range to double Nigeria’s advantage.
“You know, today I played well, the team played well, but this is not the final. We have Morocco now, so it’s another opportunity for me and for the team.”

At the back, Nigeria were rarely tested, neutralising an Algeria side known for its attacking threat.
“They didn’t have one shot on target, a team that scores a lot of goals,” Osayi-Samuel said. “So a clean sheet and two goals, perfect night.”

The victory also carried an element of redemption following a painful previous defeat to Algeria at the tournament.
“I wasn’t there, but I watched that game. That free-kick was really painful. Today was completely different, we dominated the game.”

Osayi-Samuel believes the performance sends a warning ahead of the semi-final against Morocco, who edged Cameroon in the last eight.
“I think today was a statement win, a big statement win,” he said. “Morocco will be thinking twice about us. They have great players and their strengths, but we focus on ourselves, keep believing and keep playing how we are playing.”
