Nigerian striker Victor Boniface has returned to Germany after AC Milan delayed a decision on his proposed loan move from Bayer Leverkusen following extensive medical examinations.
Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano reported that after spending 48 hours in Milano, the 24-year-old left on Sunday to rejoin Leverkusen, awaiting Milan’s final verdict on the results of his tests carried out over the weekend.
Boniface first underwent routine checks at the Centro Ambrosiano before being referred to the Galeazzi Orthopaedic Institute for further evaluation.

The additional scrutiny was triggered by concerns over his medical history, which includes two anterior cruciate ligament operations and recurring groin problems.

Milan director Igli Tare confirmed the club was still weighing its options.
“His football skills are excellent, but we need to take the right decision. We will make a final call soon together with our coach, Max Allegri,” Tare said.
Boniface has been a central figure at Leverkusen since arriving from Union Saint-Gilloise in 2023.
He scored 21 goals across all competitions in his debut campaign, finishing as the club’s top scorer and helping Xabi Alonso’s side complete a historic unbeaten Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal double.

His form earned him the Bundesliga Rookie of the Year award.
However, injuries hampered his progress last season. With Patrik Schick reclaiming the starting role, Boniface’s minutes were reduced, though he still managed eight goals and one assist in 19 league appearances, maintaining a strike rate of almost one contribution every other game.
The Nigerian forward is now back in Leverkusen, waiting for Milan’s decision.

Any collapse of the deal would represent a significant setback for Boniface who also face similar transfer heartache in the winter transfer window.
