Ademola Lookman has returned to Italy after his transfer to Serie A giants Inter Milan from Atalanta collapsed, leaving the Nigerian forward’s future uncertain.
Inter Milan had agreed personal terms with the 27-year-old but their €45m bid, including bonuses, was rejected.
Atalanta insisted on €50m and refused to sell to a domestic rival, effectively blocking the move.
The Super Eagles star, who was named African Footballer of the Year in December, reacted by submitting a transfer request and staying away from training.
During his absence, Lookman trained privately in England, prompting talk of a permanent rift with the club.

Atalanta chief executive Luca Percassi later admitted there was a “gentleman’s agreement” to consider future offers but stressed it excluded Italian sides. That stance deepened the stand-off and fuelled reports of a disciplinary response.
Local media suggest fines and wage deductions could now be imposed for his unauthorised absence.

Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano confirmed Inter had withdrawn after weeks of stalled negotiations. He added that Lookman has since been offered to Premier League clubs as his representatives explore alternatives.

Arsenal are among those monitoring developments, though interest may depend on Leandro Trossard’s future.
Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio published an image of Lookman arriving back at Atalanta’s Zingonia base on Monday, but he is expected to train away from Ivan Juric’s main squad.

His participation in Atalanta’s Serie A opener against newly-promoted Pisa remains in doubt.
