Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman has called on his teammates to remain focused as they prepare for their crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Rwanda.
Speaking ahead of the fixture, Lookman highlighted the team’s unity and determination while emphasising the need to take control of the game.
“The team is looking forward to Friday’s game—the first game. We are trusting in God, working hard, and aiming to impose ourselves on the match,” Lookman said.
“Rwanda is a good team. We are aware of their quality, but at the end of the day, we need to focus on ourselves, take the game to them, and fight to get the win. That’s the most important thing for us.”

Nigeria has historically struggled against Rwanda, managing just one win in their last five encounters—a victory that came 13 years ago. The Super Eagles currently sit in fifth place in Group C with three points, making this match a must-win if they are to keep their qualification hopes alive for the 2026 World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
Lookman also reflected on receiving the African Best Award, describing it as a major milestone in his career.
“It is a blessing, a pleasure, and an honor. It is something I hold with great respect,” he said.
The Atalanta forward has been in superb form this season, registering 18 goals and seven assists in 32 appearances across all competitions. Nigeria’s head coach, Eric Chelle, will be counting on Lookman’s brilliance to inspire the Super Eagles to a much-needed victory against Rwanda.
