AEK Athens prepare ₦10 billion bid for Super Eagles striker

Greek side AEK Athens are ready to bid £5m for Cyriel Dessers, as Rangers consider reshaping their squad under new manager Russell Martin.

Greek giants AEK Athens are preparing a £5m ( 10 billion naira) offer for Rangers and Super Eagles striker Cyriel Dessers ahead of the summer transfer window.

The 30-year-old Nigerian international joined Rangers from Italian side Cremonese in 2023 for a reported £4.5m. He scored 29 goals in 55 appearances during the 2024/25 campaign.

According to the Daily Record, AEK, who are now under the ownership of shipping magnate Marios Iliopoulos, are keen to make Dessers a marquee signing and are prepared to offer a deal that would give Rangers a modest profit.

Dessers’ future at Ibrox remains uncertain as the club looks to restructure its squad under newly appointed manager Russell Martin. Moroccan forward Hamza Igamane has emerged as a key attacking option for the new regime.

Although Dessers has delivered consistent goal returns, he has come under scrutiny from sections of the Rangers fanbase for his finishing and overall contribution. The former Genk and Feyenoord striker has also attracted interest from Serie A side Cagliari.
