Elias Achouri scored twice as Tunisia began their Africa Cup of Nations campaign with a 3-1 victory over Uganda at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat.
The win moves the Carthage Eagles top of Group C on goal difference, level on points with Nigeria following the Super Eagles’ opening-day victory over Tanzania.
Tunisia, who failed to win any of their three group-stage matches at AFCON 2023, approached the contest with urgency and control, dominating possession and territory from the outset.
Their early pressure paid off in the 10th minute when Ellyes Skhiri rose highest to head home from a Hannibal Mejbri corner, giving Tunisia a deserved lead.
Uganda struggled to cope with Tunisia’s movement in the final third, and the advantage was doubled five minutes before half-time. Ali Abdi picked out Achouri, who struck a first-time effort into the top corner to make it 2-0.
Tunisia continued to dictate proceedings after the interval and effectively settled the match just after the hour mark. Achouri reacted quickest to a loose ball inside the box, firing in his second goal of the game to extend the lead to 3-0.
The Cranes showed greater intent late on and pulled a goal back in stoppage time when Denis Omedi’s close-range effort took a deflection and beat the goalkeeper.

Uganda almost added a second in a frantic finish, but Tunisia held firm, with the crossbar and a fine save denying the Cranes further reward.
The result extends Tunisia’s perfect head-to-head record against Uganda to six wins from six meetings.
