CAF and the AFCON 2025 Local Organising Committee have confirmed major tournament regulations following a virtual meeting with representatives of all 24 participating nations.
In the briefing, CAF announced that each country will be permitted to register a maximum of 28 players, selected from their earlier 55-man provisional squad. Teams will also be allowed 17 backroom staff, covering technical, administrative and medical roles.
CAF further clarified logistics for pre-tournament preparation. All teams may arrive in Morocco up to five days before the opening ceremony, while FIFA has issued a mandatory directive ordering clubs to release players for international duty no later than 8 December.
The meeting addressed a wide range of operational matters, including visa arrangements for officials, training camp schedules, team accommodation, media and marketing procedures, anti-doping regulations and expected conduct around match officials.
Coaches also made fresh technical requests, asking CAF to provide additional seating behind team benches to improve match analysis a practice already used in several top European leagues.
Delegations emphasised the need for enhanced security and privacy around team hotels to prevent disruptions from fans or unauthorised visitors.
