AFCON: Flying Eagles get group B firepower in race to U-20 World Cup

Flying Eagles to face Tunisia, Morocco, and Kenya in Group B at the 2025 U-20 AFCON as Nigeria targets World Cup qualification in Chile.

Nigeria’s Flying Eagles have been placed in Group B alongside Tunisia, Morocco, and Kenya for the upcoming 2025 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations.

The draw was held on Sunday at the Confederation of African Football (CAF) headquarters.

Aliyu Zubairu’s squad will open their tournament campaign against Tunisia on Monday, April 28 — a familiar opponent they defeated in the third-place match two years ago in Egypt.

Road to the FIFA U-20 World Cup

The top four teams from the tournament will qualify for the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile, making progression to the semi-finals crucial.

The tournament opens on Sunday, April 27, with hosts Egypt taking on South Africa in the curtain-raiser.

The Flying Eagles finished third after defeating Tunisia at the 2023 U-20 AFCON.

Nigeria recently claimed the WAFU B regional title, defeating fierce rivals Ghana 3-1 in the final. That triumph has bolstered confidence in the squad ahead of their latest AFCON campaign.

With a rich legacy in African youth football, Nigeria’s U-20 team will be aiming to add to their seven titles and secure a place on the global stage in Chile.
