AFCON Morocco 2025 sets new global benchmark for digital engagement

The Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Morocco 2025 has set a new global digital record, generating more than six billion views across social media platforms according to the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

CAF confirmed that the tournament produced 5.2 billion video views, making it the most watched continental football competition online and highlighting the rapid growth of African football’s global audience.

The confederation said the figures reflected unprecedented interest in the tournament, with fans engaging with goals, match highlights, behind-the-scenes footage and supporter-led content throughout the competition.

CAF has revealed figures from AFCON 2025 that place the tournament above every comparable continental competition online.

CAF added that the Africa Cup of Nations recorded significant growth among diaspora audiences, attracting millions of new users from outside the continent and extending the tournament’s reach well beyond Africa.

In total, 285 million digital engagements were logged during the competition, a level of interaction CAF described as unmatched by any previous edition of the tournament.

Social media platform TikTok played a central role in driving engagement. More than one million fan-generated videos were posted using the hashtag #TotalEnergiesAFCON2025, turning the tournament into a global online trend.

CAF said the platform helped introduce the competition to younger audiences, with fans sharing goal celebrations, tactical analysis, music and fashion inspired by the tournament.

The governing body said the digital success of AFCON Morocco 2025 demonstrated a shift in how African football is consumed, with supporters playing a direct role in shaping the tournament’s global profile.

CAF added that the competition had set a new benchmark for digital engagement among continental tournaments, reinforcing the Africa Cup of Nations status as one of world football’s most influential events.
