African U18/U20 Championships: Tunisian Athletes involved in road accident moved to Lekki for proper care 

A group of Tunisian athletes participating in the African U18/U20 Championships in Abeokuta, Ogun State, were involved in a road traffic accident on Saturday, July 19. The vehicle transporting the athletes veered off the road, resulting in injuries to five members of the delegation – one male and four females

Fortunately, Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, was commuting nearby and immediately intervened, offering first-response assistance at the scene. The injured athletes were quickly taken to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Abeokuta, where they received emergency care.

Due to the severity of the situation, the athletes were later transferred to a specialized medical facility in Lekki for further treatment. The AFN media committee confirmed the relocation, assuring that the move was made to fully support the athletes’ swift recovery. All five athletes are reportedly responding positively to treatment.

The transfer of the athletes to a Lekki hospital has raised questions about the availability of world-class medical facilities in Ogun State. Despite hosting an international competition, the state reportedly lacks a hospital that can provide adequate care for athletes with serious injuries.
