After years of loyalty, Semi Ajayi could be forced out of West Brom

Semi Ajayi six-year stint at West Brom may be over this summer. With his contract expiring and the club's promotion hopes fading.

After nearly six seasons at West Brom, Semi Ajayi could be leaving the club this summer, with his future uncertain following a tough season for the Baggies.

Ajayi has been a key figure for West Brom, making 176 appearances for the club since joining, but this season has been a frustrating one. Despite showing resilience in defense, the club’s hopes of securing promotion to the Premier League have dwindled.

Currently, West Brom sit six points outside the Championship play-off spots with only two games left to play. This follows a dramatic mid-season setback when they lost their Spanish head coach Carlos Coberan to Valencia. His departure has been seen as a turning point, leading to a sharp decline in the club’s form and their chase for a play-off spot.

The Contract Situation

Ajayi’s contract is set to expire in just a couple of months, and with no new deal offered, it looks increasingly likely that he will leave the club. Although he was given a contract offer in 2022, no new talks have taken place, and with West Brom’s chances of promotion fading, the club may need to sell several key players to balance the books.

Despite his injury struggles this season, including recurring hamstring issues, Ajayi has remained one of the club’s most consistent performers, making crucial appearances in defense. But with the club’s promotion ambitions fading, it seems his time at the Hawthorns may be coming to a close.

Ajayi, 31, has made 14 appearances across competitions this season for West Bromwich Albion.

As a free agent in the summer, Ajayi will have several options both domestically and internationally. Championship clubs such as Ipswich Town or Southampton, who are also eyeing a Premier League return, could offer him a chance to stay in England.

There is also the possibility of a move abroad, with clubs in the Turkish Super Lig, French Ligue 1, and other European leagues potentially interested in the experienced defender.
