Ahmed Musa resumes as Kano Pillars General Manager, eyes revival of Nigerian giants

Reports that Ahmed Musa gifted SUVs to Kano Pillars players and staff are false. Our findings confirm the viral story.

Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa has officially resumed duties as the new General Manager of Kano Pillars Football Club, pledging to revive the former Nigerian champions and steer the team towards global prominence.

The former CSKA Moscow and Leicester City forward held a familiarisation meeting on Monday with the club’s chairman, Alhaji Ali Muhammad Umar, and members of the board, where he declared his mission to “restore the pride of one of Nigeria’s most successful football teams.”

“Kano Pillars is our club and one of the most successful in Nigeria, but in recent years, the story has changed,” Musa said during the meeting.

“With your support and that of the Board members, I will do everything possible to reposition the club and make it one of the finest not only in Africa but globally.”

Musa began his professional career with Pillars over a decade ago, and his return this time in an executive capacity marks a new chapter in the club’s history.

His appointment is part of a broader reform drive by the Kano State Government, led by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, to professionalise football in the state.

The 31-year-old, who has represented Nigeria at multiple Africa Cup of Nations and FIFA World Cups, said his experience from playing in top European and Asian leagues would be vital in modernising the club’s structure and operations.

He also promised to forge partnerships, attract investment, and rebuild the club’s technical and administrative systems in line with international best practices.

“This is not just about me — it’s about teamwork, vision, and unity across all levels: management, players, fans, and sponsors. We must all move in the same direction,” he added.

While Musa’s new executive role signals a shift toward football administration, the former Super Eagles winger stopped short of confirming whether he has officially retired from playing.

Musa was a registered player for Kano Pillars in the 2024/25 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season and even featured in Nigeria’s squad during the recent Unity Cup in London.

His dual involvement both as a player and now a senior executive has raised questions about whether he intends to combine both responsibilities or gradually transition off the pitch.

Kano Pillars, four-time NPFL champions, were once a dominant force in Nigerian football, with a passionate fan base and strong domestic record.
