Super Falcons star Rasheedat Ajibade calls on the NFF to ensure full support ahead of WAFCON they prepare to face Tunisia, Algeria & Botswana

Rasheedat Ajibade scored twice as Nigeria’s Super Falcons secured a 2-0 win over Cameroon in a pre-Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) friendly in Abeokuta on Tuesday.

The Atlético Madrid midfielder captained the team and led by example, converting a 26th-minute penalty after being fouled in the box.

She added a second just before half-time, finishing a well-worked move following a precise assist from Omorinsola Babajide.

The fixture was initially scheduled as a two-legged friendly, with matches planned for May 31 and June 3. However, the first leg—set to take place at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne—was cancelled due to the Cameroonian team’s late arrival in Nigeria.

Despite the disruption, Nigeria made the most of Tuesday’s match at the rain-soaked Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta, extending their dominance over Cameroon with a 15th win in 21 meetings.

Head coach Justin Madugu used the match as part of Nigeria’s build-up to the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, to be held in Morocco from 5 to 26 July.

The Super Falcons, nine-time WAFCON champions, are set for their 13th consecutive appearance at the tournament, they have been drawn in Group C alongside Tunisia, Algeria, and Botswana.

Despite the slippery conditions, Nigeria impressed in all areas. Ifeoma Onumonu and Toni Payne were bright early on, while second-half substitutions gave valuable game time to Francisca Ordega, Bolaji Olamide, Christy Ucheibe, and Emem Essien.

Cameroon improved after the break but rarely threatened goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie. Nigeria remained in control, with Echegini and Payne dictating the midfield and Babajide delivering a standout performance before going off with a minor knock.

The Super Falcons will continue preparations with confidence as they look to reclaim the continental crown in Morocco next month.
