Akwa United shocked Kwara United with 2-0 upset in Ilorin

Akwa United stun fans at home and away with a whooping 2-0 victory at the Rashidi Yekini Mainbowl, George Innih Stadium in Ilorin on matchday 30 of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) on Sunday.

The game became more intense when Kwara United center-back Adekunle Segun was given a straight red card for obstructing Akwa United’s Uche Sebastine in a clear goal-scoring opportunity.

By so doing, a free kick was awarded; Endurance Ebedebiri’s thunderous free-kick bounced off the post, while Osoba Kabir capitalised on the shot and scored from a rebound in the 26th minute.

 

After the red card, Kwara United struggled to respond, but their efforts to find an equalizer before halftime proved fruitless.

In the 73rd minute of the game, Wisdom Ndon delivered a magnificent pass to Ibrahim Akande in the middle, who then dropped a beautiful throw pass to Uche Sebastine, firing in a superb goal to double the Promise Keepers lead.

Akwa United FC has continuously boosted their chances of avoiding relegation, last week, they recorded another home win ( 2-0) over Shooting Stars of Ibadan in their Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Matchday 29 fixture on Sunday, March 16, 2025, at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo.

The Promise Keepers have secured themselves in the 17th place on the NPFL table with 34 points. Meanwhile, Kwara United, on the other hand, is now seated 13th with 39 points on the table.
