Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi has revealed that he nearly joined Nottingham Forest in 2023, but the move ultimately fell through. In a recent interview, Iwobi admitted that he was close to signing with the East Midlands club, but they failed to make a suitable offer.
“There was interest, the main interest came from Nottingham Forest,” Iwobi said. “The manager at the time called me and asked what I was thinking about joining. Ten minutes later, Ola Aina called me and said, ‘Alex, you’re coming to Nottingham Forest, the manager just called me and said persuade Alex’.”
However, Nottingham Forest’s interest didn’t translate into a bid, and Iwobi eventually joined Fulham in September 2023 in a deal worth €25.7 million. The decision has proven to be a shrewd one for Iwobi, who has established himself as a key player for the Cottagers.

Fulham have enjoyed an impressive campaign, currently sitting ninth in the Premier League table with 48 points from 33 games. Iwobi’s form has been a significant factor in the team’s success, and it’s clear that he’s found a comfortable home at Craven Cottage.
Alex Iwobi continued his rich vein of form as Fulham claimed a 2-1 win over already relegated Southampton at St Mary’s on Saturday.
The Super Eagles star played a crucial role, setting up the equaliser in the 72nd minute after Jacob Stephens had fired the hosts ahead early.
