Amusan runs season best as Ofili stars at Silesia Diamond League

Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan produced a season-best run in the women’s 100m hurdles, while Favour Ofili delivered a strong performance in the 200m as both athletes impressed at the Silesia Diamond League.

The world record holder clocked 12.25 seconds despite having the slowest reaction time in the field

It marked her second race in the 12.2s range this year and the third-fastest of her career.

Olympic champion Masai Russell of the United States stormed to victory in a Diamond League record 12.19, with compatriot Tonea Marshall second in a personal best of 12.24.

Amusan had earlier scraped into the final as a non-automatic qualifier with 12.48 in her semifinal, but raised her performance when it mattered to secure a podium finish.

The Nigerian remains the African and Commonwealth champion and still holds the world record of 12.12 set in Eugene in 2022, when she became Nigeria’s first-ever world champion and world record holder in athletics.

Meanwhile Reigning world champion Shericka Jackson stormed to victory in the women’s 200m at the Silesia Diamond League, clocking a season’s best of 22.17 seconds.

The Jamaican, who has dominated the half-lap event in recent years, held off a strong challenge from Olympic bronze medallist Brittany Brown of the United States, who finished just behind in 22.21s.

Nigeria’s Favour Ofili crossed the line third in 22.25s, adding another podium finish to her season.

The Nigerian sprinter had earlier clocked a season’s best of 22.00s at the Ed Murphey Classic in Memphis.
