Amy Okonkwo shines in WNBA debut despite Dallas Wings loss

Nigeria’s Amy Okonkwo marked her WNBA debut with eight points but could not prevent the Dallas Wings from falling to a 95-60 defeat against Seattle Storm.

The D’Tigress forward, signed on a seven-day hardship contract, played nine minutes at the College Park Center and added two rebounds to her tally.

Maddy Siegrist led the Wings with 12 points, while rookie Paige Bueckers scored 11.

Dominique Malonga top-scored for Seattle with 22 points, supported by Erica Wheeler’s 19.

Okonkwo, a two-time FIBA Afrobasket Most Valuable Player, is expected to feature again when Dallas face the Golden State Valkyries on Sunday.

The loss was the Wings’ 10th in a row, leaving them searching for a turnaround as the season continues.
