Arne Slot outlines Liverpool plan to contain Osimhen before Galatasaray tie

Liverpool manager Arne Slot says his side is better prepared to deal with Victor Osimhen ahead of Tuesday’s UEFA Champions League last-16 clash with Galatasaray.

The Turkish champions host the first leg at RAMS Park with a place in the quarter-finals at stake.

Osimhen has been one of Galatasaray’s standout performers in Europe this season, scoring seven goals and providing two assists in eight Champions League appearances.

One of those goals came against Liverpool earlier in the campaign, when the Nigerian striker converted a penalty to secure a 1-0 win during the league phase.

However, Slot believes his side now has a clearer understanding of how to limit the Super Eagles forward.

Speaking before the match, the Liverpool manager highlighted Osimhen’s strengths but said his defenders were ready for the challenge.

“He is lethal in the penalty area and dominant in aerial duels,” Slot said.

“He is very strong in counter-attacks and transitions. But our centre-backs have faced him before, and we have taken special precautions.”

Liverpool’s backline, led by captain Virgil van Dijk, is expected to play a key role in limiting Osimhen’s influence in Istanbul.

Despite the focus on the Nigerian forward, Slot acknowledged that Galatasaray pose several threats going forward.

The hosts boast a squad that includes experienced players such as İlkay Gündoğan and Leroy Sané, while Osimhen remains the focal point of their attack.

The match also carries historical significance for Galatasaray, marking the first time a Turkish club has reached the Champions League round of 16 in more than a decade.
