Super Falcons defender Ashleigh Plumptre has shed light on whether she could marry a Nigerian man, following her historic win at the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

Plumptre, who plays for Al-Ittihad Women’s team, helped Nigeria conquer women’s football in Africa for a record-extending 10th time, beating hosts Morocco in the final.

During a recent visit to Lagos, Nigeria, Plumptre was asked about her relationship status and the possibility of marrying a Nigerian man on Lagos Talks Sports Zone.

The 27-year-old responded lightheartedly, stating that she’s not even thinking about marriage at the moment.

“I get asked questions like this all the time,” she said. “No, I’m 27, and I’ve not even… that’s not even anything in my mind right now. I mean, I don’t even have any time.”

Plumptre’s father, Tim, has been instrumental in connecting her to her Nigerian roots.

Her paternal grandfather, Harry Dotun Plumptre, lived in Lagos, and Ashleigh’s father ensured she understood her heritage by taking her to spend time with her extended Nigerian family.

According to Tim Plumptre, this exposure was essential for Ashleigh to develop a sense of pride in her Nigerian identity.

The defender’s connection to her Nigerian family has translated to her relationships with her teammates, whom she treats like an extended family.

This bond is evident in the way she interacts with her Nigerian teammates, particularly when they score.

Plumptre’s love for the team is clear, and her Nigerian heritage plays a significant role in her identity as a player.

While Plumptre has dodged questions about marriage, her teammate Rinsola Babajide has been open about her romantic life.
