Nigerian defender Ashleigh Plumptre has shared her expectations for the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), expressing her determination to help the Super Falcons achieve their goals. Plumptre, who transitioned from representing England at the youth level to playing for Nigeria, views her role with the Super Falcons as a privilege.

Plumptre’s focus is sharp, driven by a renewed sense of purpose as she prepares for her second appearance in the tournament. After failing to achieve their goals in the previous edition, the Super Falcons have massive expectations to make a strong comeback this time around.

“It means a lot coming back here,” Plumptre said. “It was a privilege obviously for the first time at WAFCON 2022 to represent Nigeria. But to be back here the second time with the same mission we had before, probably with more of a drive because we didn’t achieve what we wanted to last time.”

Plumptre emphasized that the team’s aim is to win every game they take part in as the tournament progresses. “My aim is for us to be as present as possible,” she added. “Take one game at a time, and have the belief that we can get a result in every game that we play.”

Plumptre also challenged Morocco for a rematch after the Atlas Lionesses denied them a place in the 2022 final. “I want to play them,” she said. “I want to be in that environment, some of us have spoken about it. I loved it when we ran onto the field and there were 50,000 Moroccans booing us—it made me laugh.”
