Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman potential move to Atletico Madrid this summer is facing a significant setback, with financial obstacles threatening to derail the transfer.
The 27-year-old has been a key player for Atalanta, contributing 50 goals and 24 assists in 115 appearances over the past three seasons. With his impressive form, Lookman is expected to leave Bergamo, and top clubs from across Europe have been keeping an eye on the forward.
Atletico Madrid has also been linked with the Nigerian international, as they look to strengthen their attack ahead of next season’s La Liga challenge.

However, while the Spanish giants have expressed interest, sources suggest that the deal could be complicated by the club’s financial situation.
Atalanta, who consider Lookman their most valuable asset, are reportedly asking for €60 million to part with the forward. This hefty price tag could be problematic for Atletico Madrid, especially after their heavy spending last summer, which saw them invest over €170 million in new signings according to Estadio Deportivo.

La Liga’s strict financial regulations also mean that Atletico Madrid must be cautious with their spending, and overspending could lead to penalties.

To make room for Lookman, Atletico would likely need to offload players, a scenario that remains uncertain given the time frame before the transfer window opens.
