Former Super Falcons defender Ayisat Yusuf-Aromire has been named head coach of GirlPower United Afghans ahead of the United Summer Tournament in Zurich, Switzerland.
The appointment was confirmed by Yusuf-Aromire herself via her official X handle, where she wrote: “I have been appointed as Head Coach of GirlPower United Afghans competing in the prestigious United Summer Camp Tournament in Zurich.”
The event, which takes place from 10 to 15 June at the FIFA headquarters, will feature four nations in a showcase of youth development and social impact through football.
GirlPower United Afghans is a team made up of young Afghan female footballers and is part of the broader Girl Power initiative — a global project that provides mentoring, education, and sporting opportunities for refugee women and girls across Europe, Africa, the UK, the Middle East, and Australia.

Yusuf-Aromire has been working with the team in the build-up to the tournament, and her appointment is being hailed as a major step for inclusion and representation in women’s football.

A seasoned international, she was part of Nigeria’s victorious 2014 WAFCON squad and enjoyed a club career with Nasarawa Amazons, Delta Queens, Rivers Angels, and NiceFutis in Finland.
Off the pitch, she has built a notable coaching profile, working in youth development, refugee integration programmes, and grassroots football across Europe.
Her advocacy for girls’ empowerment through sport has earned her international recognition.
