Besiktas want Paul Onuachu – But rival fans are ready to explode over the deal

Besiktas are targeting Paul Onuachu for a summer transfer, but a fierce rivalry and Southampton’s high asking price could derail the deal

Turkish Super Lig giants Besiktas are reportedly eyeing Nigerian striker Paul Onuachu for a move this summer.

The 30-year-old, currently contracted to Southampton, made a strong impression during his loan spell at Trabzonspor last season, where he netted 17 goals and provided 4 assists in 25 appearances.

With Southampton’s relegation from the Premier League, Onuachu’s future at the club is in doubt, and Besiktas is now seeking to capitalize on the situation by bringing him to Istanbul.

The Turkish club has reportedly made Onuachu one of their key transfer targets ahead of the upcoming window as they look to strengthen their attacking options.

Besiktas’ Strategy for Onuachu’s Transfer

Sources indicate that Besiktas is eager to offer Onuachu a permanent move after his impressive stint at Trabzonspor.

The club is reportedly working on a three-year contract deal for the striker, with hopes to finalize the transfer before the end of the current season.

However, Southampton could present a significant obstacle. The Premier League club is reportedly asking for €10 million for Onuachu, despite rejecting a €7 million bid from Trabzonspor in the past.

While Besiktas has the financial resources to meet Onuachu’s wage demands, the issue of price could complicate the negotiations.

One of the key challenges Besiktas may face in their pursuit of Onuachu is the potential backlash from Trabzonspor fans.

Onuachu’s successful loan spell at Trabzonspor means he has a significant following at the club, and a switch to their fierce rivals Besiktas could stir controversy.

This could make the transfer more complex, given the intense rivalry between the two Turkish clubs.

The club has put a hold on contract negotiations and player signings until a new manager is appointed. With Onuachu’s current deal running until 2026, his future at Southampton is uncertain, and a move away could be on the cards.

Since joining the Saints from Belgian side KRC Genk in 2023, Onuachu has made 37 appearances, scoring four goals and providing one assist. His market value has dropped to €8 million, a sharp decline from his prolific form at Genk, where he scored 85 goals in 135 appearances.
