Victor Boniface has returned to Werder Bremen as he steps up his recovery from a long-term knee injury, boosting hopes he could feature again before the end of the season.
The Nigeria international has been sidelined for more than three months after undergoing surgery in January. He had been completing his rehabilitation programme with parent club Bayer Leverkusen before rejoining Bremen this week.
The Bundesliga side confirmed his return on Monday, indicating that the 25-year-old forward is progressing well in his recovery.
Bremen’s head of professional football, Peter Niemeyer, said Boniface would initially train alone before being gradually reintegrated into the squad.
“Victor will train individually for the entire week initially. Afterwards, he will be carefully reintroduced to team training, so that we hope he can still play this season,” Niemeyer said.
