The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has condemned the violent scenes that erupted at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano on Sunday after fans of Kano Pillars invaded the pitch at full-time.
In a statement signed by Chief Operating Officer Davidson Owumi, the league said it had “monitored and noted with concern the disturbing reports and viral video clips” from the Matchday 8 fixture against Shooting Stars.
Owumi confirmed that the NPFL had already established contact with the Match Commissioner, Referees, and officials of Shooting Stars, whose safety was secured after the incident.
“We condemn in the strongest terms any act of violence, intimidation, or misconduct directed at players, match officials, or fans,” the statement read.

The league management added that it was awaiting the official match reports and complete video evidence before taking further action.
“This isolated incident is being treated with utmost seriousness, and appropriate actions will follow upon review of the full reports,” Owumi said.
He reiterated the NPFL’s commitment to maintaining discipline, safety, and professionalism at all league venues nationwide.

The incident marks yet another worrying episode of crowd violence at the Sani Abacha Stadium, raising renewed questions about security and fan control in the domestic league.
