Former Super Eagles forward Brown Ideye has officially announced his departure from Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) powerhouse Enyimba FC following the conclusion of the 2024-25 season. The 36-year-old striker, who joined the Aba-based club in January, made 13 appearances across all competitions, netting five goals during his brief but memorable spell.
Despite his contributions, Enyimba fell short in the group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup and finished sixth in the NPFL, trailing champions Remo Stars by 16 points. Ideye took to his official X (formerly Twitter) handle to share an emotional farewell message, expressing gratitude to the club’s management, teammates, and passionate supporters.
“To the Chairman, Staff, my teammates, and fans of Enyimba FC, thank you for the wonderful journey. It’s been an honor to wear the jersey and play for one of the biggest and best football clubs in Nigeria and Africa,” he wrote. “As I move on, I’m grateful for the fond memories we created together on and off the pitch, and I appreciate the love, respect, and support you all gave me from day one. This club will always have a great place in my heart. With Love and Appreciation.”

Ideye’s illustrious career began in Nigeria with Bayelsa United before he moved to the now-defunct Ocean Boys. His European journey saw him play for Swiss side Neuchâtel Xamax, France’s FC Sochaux, Ukraine’s Dynamo Kyiv, and England’s West Bromwich Albion. He also had stints with Greek giants Olympiacos, China’s Tianjin Teda, Spain’s Málaga CF, and clubs in Turkey and Kuwait.

While his next move remains uncertain, speculation suggests the seasoned striker may be considering retirement. If this marks the end of his playing career, Ideye leaves behind a legacy as one of Nigeria’s most traveled and respected football exports. Enyimba fans will undoubtedly remember his brief but impactful contribution as the club looks ahead to rebuilding for the upcoming season.
