CAF confirms Nigerian Afrobeats superstar for AFCON 2025 kick-off show

Nigerian Afrobeats superstar Davido has been confirmed as one of the headline performers for the official kick-off concert of AFCON 2025.

The announcement was made on Thursday by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) as part of pre-tournament activities for Africa’s flagship football event.

The concert is scheduled for Saturday at the Olm Souissi Fan Zone in Rabat, running from 18:00 to 00:00 local time. Entry will be free for holders of Fan IDs and match tickets, offering fans a festive curtain-raiser ahead of the tournament’s opening matches.

The star-studded lineup includes French Montana, Douaa Lahyaoui, Says’z, and Lartiste.

Davido’s appearance continues a string of high-profile performances at major sporting events. Earlier in 2025, he performed at Nigeria’s National Sports Festival in Abeokuta and thrilled fans at the 2022 FIFA World Cup final in Qatar.

He has previously performed at the 2017 AFCON opening ceremony, the 2022 FIFA World Cup draw in Doha, and the 2023 Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) awards.

On the pitch, AFCON 2025 officially kicks off on Sunday with hosts Morocco facing Comoros at the Stade Prince Moulay Abdallah in Rabat. The following day, Mali, South Africa, and Egypt will play against Zambia, Angola, and Zimbabwe, respectively, as group-stage action gathers momentum.

Meanwhile, the Super Eagles of Nigeria have arrived in Fes, where they will play all their group matches against Tanzania, Tunisia, and Uganda. The Nigerian squad traveled from Cairo, following a four-day training camp in preparation for the tournament.
