CAF releases AFCON 2025 Best XI following Morocco finals

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially unveiled its Best XI of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, recognising the standout performers from the tournament held in Morocco.

Morocco goalkeeper Yassine Bounou was selected between the posts after 5 clean sheets that proved crucial during the latter stages of the competition.

The defensive line is led by Achraf Hakimi, who missed the opening two matches of the tournament but returned in commanding fashion to guide the Atlas Lions to the final.

He is joined by Nigeria’s Calvin Bassey, whose dominant performances throughout the competition earned him recognition as one of the tournament’s most reliable defenders, alongside Moussa Niakhaté and Noussair Mazraoui.

In midfield, Villarreal’s Pape Gueye was included after an influential campaign that yielded three goals, including the decisive strike in extra time that sealed Senegal’s final victory over Morocco.

He is joined by Idrissa Gana Gueye, while Nigeria forward Ademola Lookman was listed in an advanced midfield role following a storming tournament in which he registered three goals and four assists.
