CAF releases full officiating team for AFCON 2025

CAF has released the full list of referees and video match officials for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations(AFCON), with Nigeria and Tanzania missing out on selections for the tournament.

The line-up includes 28 centre referees and 14 VMOs from across the continent, with host nation Morocco, Algeria, Egypt and Mauritania each providing two central officials.

Algeria’s Mustapha Ghorbal and Youcef Gamou lead the list of match referees, alongside Ghana’s Daniel Laryea, South Africa’s Abongile Tom, Kenya’s Peter Waweru, and Morocco’s Jalal Jayed and Kach Mustapha.

Egypt also has strong representation through Mohamed Maarouf and Amin Omar, while Rwanda, Mauritania, Côte d’Ivoire and DR Congo all feature in the final roster.

CAF also confirmed 14 VMOs, including Algeria’s Lahlou Benbraham, Egypt’s Mahmoud Ashour, Tunisia’s Haythem Guirat, Morocco’s Hamza El Fariq, and Senegal’s Djibril Camara.

The tournament will run from 21 December 2025 to 18 January 2026, the first AFCON to be staged over the Christmas and New Year period.

Nine stadiums across Agadir, Casablanca, Fez, Marrakesh, Rabat and Tangier will host matches, including Tangier’s 75,000-capacity Ibn Batouta Stadium.

The Atlas Lions begin the tournament on 21 December, facing Comoros in Rabat in the opening Group A fixture.
