Home based Super Eagles of Nigeria hopes at the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) ended in humiliating fashion after a 4-0 defeat to Sudan in Zanzibar.
Eric Chelle’s men, who lost their opening match 1-0 to Senegal, went into the game needing a win to keep qualification hopes alive but fell apart defensively.
Leonard Ngenge’s own goal in the 25th minute set the tone, after a VAR decision moments earlier had ruled out Anthony Ijoma’s strike for offside.
Ngenge was again at fault on the stroke of half-time, handling a cross inside the box to concede a penalty. Walieldin Khidir made no mistake from the spot to double Sudan’s lead.

The second half brought no respite. Sudan extended their advantage through a swift counter-attack finished by Mohamed Yagoub in the 67th minute, before Abdelrahman Khalifa’s late strike wrapped up a comprehensive victory.
Nigeria, bottom of their group with zero points and a goal difference of -5, exit the competition after just two matches, while Sudan progress to the next stage.
