Head coach Eric Chelle and vice-captain William Troost-Ekong have confirmed Nigeria’s participation in the highly anticipated Unity Cup Invitational Tournament 2025.
The tournament, now confirmed to take place at Gtech Community Stadium in Brentford, West London, will feature a fiery lineup: Nigeria, Ghana, Jamaica, and Trinidad & Tobago. Scheduled for the final days of May, it’s being billed as a vibrant Afro-Caribbean football festival celebrating culture, rivalry, and unity.
Speaking ahead of the showdown, Chelle expressed excitement over the chance to test new tactics and unearth emerging talents.
“The Unity Cup gives us a great chance to try out new players and solidify our squad ahead of tougher matches later this year,” Chelle said, per NFF Comms.
Vice-captain Troost-Ekong also weighed in, calling the tournament a vital warm-up as the team gears up for World Cup qualifying clashes.
“This is the perfect setting for us to regroup and prepare for what lies ahead,” said the Al-Kholood defender.
But there’s more than just preparation on the line — redemption is in the air. The Super Eagles suffered a brutal 4-1 defeat to Ghana in their last London exhibition, and now, they’ll face their arch-rivals again in the semi-final on May 28.

The winner advances to the final, while Jamaica and Trinidad & Tobago face off in the “TriniJam Derby” the day before.
With Chelle hinting at major squad rotations, fringe players like Christantus Uche, Anthony Dennis, and Cyriel Dessers have been put on high alert. The Unity Cup may just be their golden ticket into the national spotlight.
