Club Brugge in talks with Southampton over transfer of Samuel Edozie

Club Brugge has expressed interest in signing Samuel Edozie, a forward who has been on the radar of Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle. According to transfer market expert Sacha Tavolieri, the Belgian club is in negotiations with Southampton over a potential deal for the Nigeria-eligible winger.

Edozie with Nigerian root, is a potential target for The Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle who is trying to convince him to commit his international future to Nigeria. Edozie is one of the many players with Nigerian root scattered all over Europe.

Edozie, born in London, is a Manchester City academy product who has made competitive appearances for England’s Young Lions at the U19 level and featured at the 2023 FIFA U20 World Cup. He has been with Southampton since September 2022 and has two years remaining on his current contract.

The forward spent the previous season on loan at RSC Anderlecht in the Belgian top-flight, where he featured in 23 games, scoring three and assisting three. He also caught the eye in European competition, registering a goal and an assist in five Europa League appearances for the Belgian side.

Club Brugge is targeting Edozie as a replacement for Chemsdine Talbi, who has been strongly linked with Premier League newcomers Sunderland. With Talbi’s potential departure, the Belgian club is looking to strengthen their attacking options, and Edozie’s skills and experience make him an attractive prospect.

Southampton, relegated from the Premier League last season, is preparing for a major squad overhaul and appears open to offloading Edozie.
