According to Romano, Chelsea expressed interest in Nwaneri during talks over Noni Madueke’s transfer. They were prepared to make a bid for Nwaneri if Arsenal couldn’t agree on a contract extension, to avoid losing him for free next summer. Romano stated on his YouTube channel: “Chelsea, during the discussion for Noni Madueke, told Arsenal they were interested in Ethan Nwaneri and prepared to make a bid if Arsenal weren’t able to agree to any contract with the player to avoid losing him for free next summer and to present a bid now. For Arsenal, that was a no; Arsenal never had the intention to let Nwaneri go.”
