Super Eagles striker Cyriel Dessers has completed a remarkable personal turnaround, securing the Sam English Bowl as Rangers’ top goalscorer for the 2024/25 season.
The Nigerian forward had a rough start to the campaign, coming under intense scrutiny from fans and media alike.
Booed at Ibrox and surrounded by transfer speculation, Dessers briefly lost his starting spot to Hamza Igamane in November. But rather than fold, the 30-year-old dug deep and worked his way back into the starting XI.
Despite Rangers enduring a trophyless season—losing the League Cup final to Celtic, exiting the Scottish Cup early, and falling to Athletic Bilbao in the Europa League quarterfinals—Dessers stood out with 23 goals and 7 assists in 50 appearances.
At the club’s awards night, his perseverance and output were recognized with the Sam English Bowl. Other award recipients included Nico Raskin (Player of the Season), Hamza Igamane (Goal of the Season), and James Tavernier, who was honoured for making 500 club appearances.

Dessers has made it clear he’s not done yet at Ibrox. Speaking ahead of their Scottish Premiership clash against St. Mirren, he reaffirmed his commitment to the club:
“I came here two summers ago with the ambition to fight for trophies, to win trophies,” Dessers said.

“I’m sitting here, we had two amazing runs in Europe, but we only won a trophy, and I don’t think that’s enough. I’m really hungry to win more silver at this club. So, for me, I’m very keen [to stay].”
