Diamond League: Amusan heads four-strong Nigerian squad in Poland

World record holder Tobi Amusan will lead a four-athlete Nigerian contingent at the 12th leg of the Diamond League in Silesia, Poland, on Saturday, as they chase qualification for the season-ending finals in Zurich.

Fresh from a fifth straight national title in Lagos, Amusan is targeting a fourth Diamond Trophy.

She sits second in the 100m hurdles standings with 17 points, behind American Grace Stark, and will compete in the event for the sixth time this season.

Favour Ofili makes her Diamond League season debut in the 200m, while Ezekiel Nathaniel returns for his second-ever appearance in the 400m hurdles after a podium finish in Oregon.

The Turkish-bound sprinter is 17th in the 100m standings with four points, following a fifth-place finish at her first appearance this season in Oregon’s Prefontaine Classic.

In the men’s shot put, Chukwuebuka Enekwechi is eyeing a strong result to strengthen his bid for a finals berth.

African shot put record holder Chukwuebuka Enekwechi, currently sixth in the standings, is also in action as he looks to build on his 22.10m throw in Oregon.

With just three meetings left before the 27–28 August finals, all four Nigerians are battling for places in Zurich and a share of the $2.24m prize pool.
