DR Congo are continuing preparations for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers by pursuing several France-based players, despite an unresolved eligibility case involving Nigeria.
According to Foot Mercato, the Congolese Football Federation is intensifying efforts to recruit players developed in France ahead of the March inter-confederation play-offs, for which DR Congo remain listed.
Foot Mercato reports that Warren Bondo, the AC Milan midfielder currently on loan at Cremonese, and Villarreal defender Willy Kambwala have both agreed to switch international allegiance to DR Congo, having previously represented France at youth level.
The report adds that discussions are ongoing with several other French-trained players, including Arnaud Kalimuendo, Dilane Bakwa, Bradley Locko and Jean-Victor Makengo, as part of a broader recruitment drive.

The moves come while FIFA continues to review a protest lodged by the Nigeria Football Federation following DR Congo’s penalty shoot-out victory over Nigeria in November.
Nigeria submitted a formal complaint alleging that DR Congo fielded ineligible players during the play-off match, citing FIFA regulations on nationality changes.
Despite public criticism from former Super Eagles captain and coach Sunday Oliseh, the NFF has maintained confidence in its position.
“We believe we have a good case and we are waiting for FIFA’s decision,” NFF General Secretary Dr Mohammed Sanusi said.
FIFA has not altered the qualification schedule while the case remains under review. DR Congo are still expected to take part in the inter-confederation play-offs on 26 and 31 March 2026 in Mexico, where teams from Asia, Oceania, South America and Concacaf will compete for two World Cup places.

Should FIFA uphold Nigeria’s protest, the Super Eagles could yet be reinstated. Until then, DR Congo are proceeding with preparations as planned.
