Driver in Anthony Joshua crash arraigned on four charges in Ogun State

The driver of a Lexus SUV involved in a road accident with heavyweight boxer Anthony Joshua has been arraigned at a Sagamu Magistrate Court in Ogun State.

Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, 46, appeared before the court on Friday, 2 January 2026, and was formally charged on four counts, the Ogun State Police confirmed.

He faces charges of dangerous driving causing death, reckless and negligent driving, driving without due care causing bodily harm and property damage, and driving without a valid National Driver’s Licence.

Kayode was granted bail of ₦5,000,000 with two sureties but remains in custody pending the fulfilment of bail conditions.

The crash occurred on Monday, 29 December, along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in the Makun area. Joshua was travelling in the SUV with two friends, Latif Ayodele and Sina Ghami, when the vehicle collided with a stationary truck. Both passengers died at the scene, while Joshua and the driver sustained minor injuries.

Joshua was discharged from the hospital on Wednesday, 31 December, and reportedly visited a Lagos funeral home with his mother to pay final respects to Ayodele and Ghami. The bodies were repatriated later that night.
