D’Tigers crush Tunisia to reach Afrobasket quarter-finals

Nigeria’s D’Tigers booked their place in the quarter-finals of the 2025 FIBA Afrobasket with a resounding 87-66 win over defending champions Tunisia in Luanda.

NBA star Josh Okogie was the standout performer, pouring in 31 points as the Nigerians wrapped up their second straight victory in Group B.

Nigeria led 48-33 at half-time before stretching the gap to 68-47 by the end of the third quarter, maintaining control to seal the win by a 21-point margin.

The result means D’Tigers are through to the last eight with a game to spare, having opened the tournament with a 77-59 triumph over Madagascar.

Tunisia, who had earlier suffered an 86-65 defeat to Cameroon, are now on the brink of elimination.

Okogie, 26, who recently joined Houston Rockets coaches by former D’tigers star Ime Udoka, was Born in Lagos, he moved to the United States at the age of three with his family, settling in Snellville, Georgia, where he began playing basketball at Shiloh High School before starring at Georgia Tech.

Nigeria will conclude their group campaign against Cameroon, while Tunisia face Madagascar needing a big win to keep their hopes alive.

The D’Tigers, AfroBasket champions in 2015 and four-time silver medallists (1997, 1999, 2003, 2017), also boast three bronze medals (1995, 2005, 2011), underlining their pedigree as one of Africa’s basketball powerhouses
