D’Tigress suffered a 77–60 defeat to South Korea in their second match of the qualifying tournament for the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup.
The result marked D’Tigress first defeat since their quarter-final loss to the United States women’s national basketball team at the women’s basketball event of the 2024 Summer Olympics.
Nigeria entered Thursday’s contest with momentum after a dominant victory over the Colombia women’s national basketball team in their opening fixture of the qualifying tournament.
South Korea started strongly and took a 20–16 lead at the end of the first quarter. D’Tigress improved in the second period, but the Asian side maintained their advantage and went into half-time leading 36–32.
South Korea extended their lead further in the third quarter, moving ahead 58–51 before pulling away in the final period to secure a 17-point victory.

Despite the defeat, the African champions have already secured their place at the World Cup. Host nation Germany, alongside Belgium, United States and Australia have also qualified for the tournament through continental titles or hosting rights.

D’Tigress will return to action in their next qualifying game on Saturday as they look to respond to the setback.
