Nigeria international Rinsola Babajide has criticised the Confederation of African Football (CAF) following the postponement of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The Super Falcons forward described the situation as “embarrassing” after CAF confirmed the tournament would no longer start in March as originally planned.
The competition, which was scheduled to kick off in Morocco on 17 March, has now been moved to a new window between 25 July and 16 August 2026.

The decision was announced just weeks before the opening ceremony, leaving several national teams facing disruption to their preparations.
Babajide expressed her frustration on social media platform X, where she criticised the handling of the tournament schedule.
“It’s actually embarrassing at this point,” the AS Roma forward wrote.

The delay comes after some teams had already begun preparations for the competition.

Nigeria recently completed a double-header of friendly matches against Cameroon, while other sides had also entered training camps ahead of the tournament.
Ghana’s women’s national team were reportedly in the United Arab Emirates for a pre-tournament tour when news of the postponement emerged.

The Women’s Africa Cup of Nations also serves as a key pathway to qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup, making scheduling decisions particularly significant for participating teams.
