Enugu State’s boxing team have displayed courage and brilliance at the 2024 National Sports Festival (NSF), even as the state continues its search for a first medal at the Gateway Games in Abeokuta.
Rising star Daniel Chukwudubem has booked his place in the semi-finals, demonstrating composure and technical quality in a tightly contested bout.
In a dramatic highlight, Israel Ogbodo made headlines by knocking out his opponent in under 35 seconds to qualify for the quarterfinals of the 60kg category, sending a strong message to his division.
Shedrack Ozoemenam progressed to the quarterfinals after his opponent failed to appear, earning a walkover victory, while Ayodele Daniel joined the advancing group with a solid showing in his respective weight class.

Despite these promising performances in the boxing ring, Team Enugu are yet to claim a medal at the ongoing National Sports Festival.

Elsewhere, in basketball, it was a tough outing for the state’s male team, as Team Delta handed Enugu a 48-31 defeat, further delaying the state’s hopes of making a mark on the medals table.
Looking ahead, para-athletics, powerlifting, and track events commence today, Friday, offering fresh opportunities for Enugu to mount a serious medal charge.
