Renowned football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu is set to join Trabzonspor, a Turkish Super Lig club that was formerly home to Nigerian legend Mikel Obi.

According to Romano, Trabzonspor has agreed on a fee with Southampton, Onuachu’s current club, for the sale of the Nigerian forward.

The Turkish club will pay €8 million to Southampton, and the only detail left to finalize is the personal terms, which are not expected to be a major issue given Onuachu’s previous experience with the club.

Onuachu’s move to Trabzonspor comes after a loan spell at the club in the 2022-23 season, during which he contributed 17 goals and four assists in 25 games.

Although Trabzonspor wanted to sign him permanently at the end of the loan deal, Southampton’s asking price was too high, causing the Turkish club to back off.

However, it seems that the two clubs have now reached an agreement, paving the way for Onuachu’s return to Turkey.

The 31-year-old striker has had a mixed experience at Southampton since joining the club from Belgian side Genk two years ago.

Despite his talent, he has struggled with injuries, managerial changes, and the club’s instability, limiting him to just 40 games in two seasons.

His move to Trabzonspor is expected to give him a fresh start and provide him with the opportunity to showcase his skills in a more stable environment.

Trabzonspor has a history of attracting Nigerian talent, having previously signed players like Mikel Obi, Ogenyi Onazi, Isaac Promise, Augustine James, and Victor Shaka.

Onuachu’s move to the club will undoubtedly be seen as a coup for the Turkish side, given his impressive form in the past.

The deal is expected to be finalized in the coming days, and Onuachu will be confirmed as a Trabzonspor player. This move will be closely watched by football fans and analysts, given Onuachu’s potential and the club’s ambitions.
