Nigeria U-20 head coach Moses Aduku says the Falconets are still awaiting medical feedback on Janet Akekoromowei after the winger picked up an injury in their World Cup qualifier win over Senegal.
Akekoromowei sustained a nasty ankle injury during Nigeria’s 1–0 victory in the first leg of the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup qualifying tie, played at the MKO Abiola Sports Complex in Abeokuta.
With the return fixture scheduled to take place in Dakar this weekend, Aduku confirmed that the medical team is continuing its assessment, leaving the player’s availability uncertain.
“The medical team has been taking care of her,” Aduku said, speaking to Soccernet NG. “We are hoping she’ll come back on time, but we don’t know yet until they give us their feedback.”

Aduku acknowledged Akekoromowei’s importance to the squad but stressed that no decision has been taken regarding her inclusion for the return leg.
“We don’t know yet,” he added. “If she’s good enough, we’ll take her to the game because the game is crucial. She’s a very good player and an important player for the team.”
