The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has confirmed that the Flying Eagles will return to Abuja to complete their preparations for the U20 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) before traveling to Egypt for the tournament.
NFF President Ibrahim Gusau made the announcement during his visit to the Flying Eagles’ training camp in Katsina.
Nigeria’s Flying Eagles, the most successful team in U20 AFCON history with seven titles, finished third in the 2023 edition, which was claimed by Senegal.
The U20 AFCON will be hosted by Egypt for the second consecutive time after Cote d’Ivoire withdrew as the original host. The tournament will take place from April 27, 2025, to May 18, 2025.
In the first round, the Flying Eagles have been drawn into a tough group, where they will face hosts Egypt, Morocco, and South Africa. Only the top four teams will secure a spot at the 2025 FIFA U20 World Cup in Chile.
