Flying Eagles launch Ghana 2025 preparations with friendly match

The Flying Eagles will play a warm-up game in Abuja ahead of the WAFU B U20 Championship opener scheduled to kick off in Ghana.

Nigeria’s U20 men’s national team, the Flying Eagles, will face Capital City FC in a warm-up fixture on Wednesday, as preparations intensify ahead of the 2025 WAFU Zone B U20 Championship in Ghana.

The game, set for 3:00 pm at the FIFA Goal Project, Package B of the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja, marks the team’s first official test since regrouping for the regional tournament.

Originally scheduled for June, the WAFU Zone B U20 Championship will now run from 10 to 23 July 2025, with matches to be staged across venues in Ghana, including the University of Ghana Stadium and the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram.

The Flying Eagles have been drawn in Group A alongside regional rivals Ghana and the Benin Republic. Group B consists of Côte d’Ivoire, Burkina Faso, Niger Republic, and Togo.

The top two teams from each group will advance to the semi-finals.

Ghana’s Black Satellites will open the tournament against Nigeria on July 10 in Prampram, before facing Benin on July 16 to complete their group campaign.

This edition is designed to accelerate youth football development in West Africa and serve as key preparation for the 2025 FIFA U20 World Cup in Chile.

The final of the tournament will be played on July 23, 2025, at the University of Ghana Stadium.
