Flying Eagles winger Sani Suleiman close to Bundesliga move

From the NPFL to Germany’s top flight, Flying Eagles winger Sani Suleiman is on the brink of a big Bundesliga move.

Flying Eagles winger Sani Suleiman is close to completing a move to Bundesliga side RB Leipzig, a deal that would further increase Nigerian representation in Germany’s top flight.

The 19-year-old Flying Eagles star has attracted interest from several European clubs, including Brentford, Tottenham Hotspur, Rangers and Bayer Leverkusen, but RB Leipzig are now set to win the race for his signature.

According to Africafoot, Leipzig have reached an agreement with Slovakian club AS Trenčín, with personal terms already settled. Suleiman is understood to be in Germany to complete his medical ahead of the transfer.

The deal is expected to be worth around €6.5m, with an official announcement anticipated before the end of the week, subject to the finalisation of remaining details.

Suleiman’s rise has been rapid. Less than two years ago, he was playing in the Nigeria Premier Football League with Akwa United, where he won the Rookie of the Season award. His performances earned him a move to AS Trenčín, who signed him on a two-year contract.

The winger has since continued his development in Slovakia, impressing with his pace, versatility and direct attacking style, while also representing Nigeria at Under-20 level, including appearances at the FIFA U-20 World Cup.

If completed, the move would see Suleiman join a growing list of Nigerian players in the Bundesliga, including Victor Boniface, Nathan Tella, Felix Agu and Jordan Torunarigha.

He would also become only the second Nigerian to play for RB Leipzig, after Ademola Lookman, who joined the club on loan from Everton in January 2018.

Leipzig are understood to have fended off strong competition to secure the teenager’s signature. Brentford reportedly had two bids rejected by AS Trenčín before turning their attention elsewhere.

Suleiman’s arrival could also increase attention on Leipzig’s young talents, with the club already drawing interest in Ivory Coast winger Yan Diomande following his performances at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
