Kano Pillars Technical Adviser Usman Sheriff Abdallah has officially stepped down from his role following the conclusion of the 2024/25 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season.
His resignation caps off a dramatic season that began with high expectations, included a two-month suspension, and ended with a 9th-place finish and 53 points from 38 matches — an improvement on the club’s previous campaign.
Abdallah, who was officially unveiled by Kano Pillars as Technical Adviser in August 2024, was brought in to replace Paul Offor just days after Offor’s appointment was terminated. He signed a two-year deal with an option for a third, hoping to bring his wealth of experience to the role.
The seasoned tactician had previously won the NPFL title with Enyimba in 2019 and played a key role in Katsina United’s promotion to the top flight two seasons ago. His UEFA A License underscored his credentials and commitment to excellence.
However, mid-season tensions marred his tenure. Abdallah was suspended for two months by the club following an inappropriate gesture directed at fans after a frustrating goalless draw with Bayelsa United on Matchday 22.
“I had a disagreement with about five individuals, and they misunderstood it as a fight with the fans,” Abdallah later revealed. “These are people who believe they have influence over the club and expect money from the coach every month. I made it clear I wouldn’t bow to their demands, and they went to the chairman.”
The club initially imposed a three-week suspension but later extended it.
“I’ve been told that the suspension has been extended for one more game, which is this weekend’s away match against Kwara United,” he said at the time.
“I don’t know why I’m still suspended; there’s a lot of confusion. The supporters are against the officials, and now they’ve said the suspension will last until after our match against Kwara United.”
Abdallah added that he had made peace with the broader fan base. “Two days later, I came out, explained things, and the fans understood.”

The fallout created a strained atmosphere around the club. But after productive discussions and reconciliation with management and fans, the issues were resolved, and Abdallah returned to his role to guide the team through the rest of the season.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the club confirmed that Abdallah had submitted his resignation, citing personal reasons and a significant new career opportunity as the key factors behind his decision.
“Coach Abdallah informed the management of a new commitment that would require his full attention. After thorough discussions, it was mutually agreed that stepping aside was in the best interest of both parties and the future of the club,” the statement read.
In an emotional farewell audio message, Abdallah shared his gratitude and explained the timing of his decision:
“Due to an important development in my career, I have decided to step down as Technical Adviser of this great club. Though I am leaving my position, I remain a proud supporter of Kano Pillars and will always be available to offer advice or assistance. This club means a lot to me.”
He also paid special tribute to the fans, calling them “the heartbeat of the team.”
“What I’ll miss the most are the fans – their passion and loyalty were among the key reasons I accepted this role. Thank you for everything.”

Club Chairman, Ali Muhammad Umar, praised Abdallah for his professionalism and leadership:
“We sincerely thank Coach Usman Abdallah for his contributions and leadership. He brought stability and direction to the team, and we wish him nothing but success in his future endeavors.”
Abdallah managed the club for 27 matches, winning 11, drawing 5, and losing 11 as they finished in the top half of the table. Kano Pillars are now in search of a new head coach as preparations begin for the 2025/26 season.
