Team Enugu Camp Commandant, Uchenna Kingsley, has declared that the team is fully focused on winning medals at the 22nd National Sports Festival(NSF)- Gateway Games 2025 with no major challenges in sight.
Speaking to Prime Sports Radio Enugu and Athletic NG, Kingsley, who also serves as Deputy Director of Coaching at the Ministry of Youth and Sports Enugu shared his thoughts on the journey and the team’s mood on arrival.
“Our arrival in Ogun was marvellous. We travelled in a luxurious air-conditioned bus. The journey was long, but everyone enjoyed it.
We got in around 10 p.m., sorted accommodation, and fully settled by midnight. We’re good to go,” he said.

With the opening ceremony set for today at the MKO Abiola International Stadium in Abeokuta, Kingsley revealed that due to large attendance, each state will be represented by only 37 athletes during the parade.
However, the focus for Team Enugu remains clear. “We don’t have challenges,” Kingsley stated.
“We thank His Excellency, the Governor of Enugu State, for the sponsorship and support. Our only challenge is how to win medals for Enugu. That’s where our minds are.”

He also gave an update on team preparations: “The spirit in camp is high.
The athletes and coaches are feeling great. Our badminton players are currently in their technical meeting, and the wrestlers trained this morning. Everyone is focused and ready.”
Commending the organisers, Kingsley praised the standard of accommodation provided by the host state.
“The hostels are well arranged with brand new beds, clean bedsheets, pillows, and bottled water. Ogun State has done an excellent job.”

Enugu will hope to improve on their performance at the last National sports festival were the won 3 bronze medals.
Team Enugu has a strong presence at the Gateway Games with 84 athletes and 24 officials across 12 sports, including Para Powerlifting, Para Athletics, Judo, Badminton, Tennis, Swimming, Athletics, Boxing and Wrestling
