Getafe leave door open as Uche fights for game time at Crystal Palace

Getafe coach José Bordalás has spoken warmly of Chrisantus Uche but declined to comment directly on speculation linking the Super Eagles midfielder with a return to Spain.

Uche left Getafe for Crystal Palace in the summer on a season-long loan, with a conditional obligation to buy if he starts ten league matches. However, the 22-year-old has struggled for minutes in England, featuring only twice from the bench and yet to start a Premier League game.

His limited involvement has raised questions about his future, with reports in Spain suggesting Palace may cut short his loan in January.

Uche was one of Getafe’s standout performers last season after making the jump from third-tier side Ceuta, quickly establishing himself under Bordalás. The coach had voiced frustration when the player left, but financial pressures left the club with little choice.

Getafe face Atlético Madrid later today and the manager was asked whether he would welcome the Nigerian international back, Bordalás offered a careful response:

“No, I’m not going to comment on a player who isn’t with us, who isn’t wearing the Getafe shirt, and even less so on Uche, whom I’m very fond of.

Right now, we’re focused on the squad we have and the match we have the day after tomorrow. We’ll see what the future holds.”

Despite the uncertainty, Uche remains under contract with Getafe until June 2028, and his current market value stands at €15 million, according to Transfermarkt.
